Welcome to week #33 of the Mygirlfund Tumblr photo contest. We have five beautiful shots to present this week and they all have a few things in common. First off, they are all gorgeous. We have to get that out of the way. Secondly, they each show in their own unique way what going the extra mile to get the shot is all about. Whether through clever lighting, posing, and or subtle editing the shots below stand out from the dozens of submissions we got last week.
We like to think that we are doing you fans and friends a favor by forking out cold hard cash to the winners of this contest every week. We are actively encouraging and promoting the best content creation processes known to man! We know of winners who have made enough off of this contest to buy new DSLR’s. That’s serious cash! It’s one of the best kept open secrets on Mygirlfund. The Tumblr contest = great money for modest effort. For the layperson not so good at word math, this means that we let the girls do their own thing, and pay for the best, and most creative shots of the week. We look at a lot of things when judging the efforts, including composition, lighting, resolution, and overall message!
As fans and friends, you can help out your favorite contestants by reblogging their awesomeness! All this hullaballoo is ultimately for you dear reader.
So first off this week is our honorable mention. CalipygianVenus is a perfect example of what someone is referring to when they say ‘her skin is like fresh cream’. She is perfectly pale, and alt just barely begins to cover Venus’s style and attitude. The pink bear/pig/other stuffed animal on the bed and the colorful knee highs add the perfect complimentary color contrast to her skin tone. The white balance is decent considering the multicolored lighting being used, and of course it is in beautiful HD resolution. Overall it’s a shot worthy of including in our line up this week.
That brings us to our runner ups for week #33. First runner up pictured below is Pinkrush who really rocked our socks with this picture of hers. The over-sized T, and the heavy socks remind us that fall is almost upon us, and girls are headed back indoors, where they will have little else to do but study, and make great content like this. Great job PinkRush, enjoy the cash!
Next up is MissHannah, who sent in this cross processed shot below. What do we like about this shot? Everything. It’s soft, subtle, and at the same time direct. It’s like she is looking right at us! Eyes focused directly into the lens of the camera in head-on shots like this works absolutely best. It allows the viewer to emotionally connect with the shot. What more could you ask for? Well, if you follow the link to her profile, you can see for yourself what else you can expect from her. It’s pure win with MissHannah, congrats on the cash!
That brings us to our pair of first place winners for week #33.
MissBev… wow. What can we say? This shot really speaks for itself. In contrast to the shot above, since this is not a head-on shot her eyes are focused forward on her face which shows a fearlessness in her wide open environment. Her back is perfectly yoga straight, and the red hair on the blue sky combined with the outrageous ink… it’s a beautiful contrast, both visually and symbolically. Also, notice the pro posing? She is sitting on her heels, but her legs and butt still have perfect shape. This is hard to do, and by the end of the shoot, we know that she felt this shot in particular in her legs. Just another example of going the extra mile to get the shot.
We have been calling these types of outdoor Alt girl submissions ” Au Natural 2.0″. Just wait and see, it’s the next big thing. Congrats MissBev. Keep on rockin shots like this, and we see great things for you here in the MGF Tumblr contest.
That leaves our final first place winner. KatherineCutie sent in this beautifully bokeh’d shot below and we knew right away that her chances of winning this week were high. This shot is a cross between intimate, and anonymous. The small aperture used ensured this narrow depth of field that goes miles towards making this shot really stand out. We love how the detail on the jewelry, and her smiling mouth fades out into soft fantasy. Expert use of negative space, and obviously thought out composition makes this shot special as well. This shot was probably taken with strobes to compensate for the small aperture. Strobes freeze motion as well which helps to produce sharp images like this one. Freezing motion with strobes also captures genuine emotional micro expressions on the face, which makes this pro shot look brilliantly candid at the same time.
Life is good.
